HARRY & THE WONDER OF IT

This is an illustrated talk based on the Harry Potter theme. It can take place in Church or some other venue. If possible it need to be somewhere where Harry can stand in prominent position – in church, the pulpit will be ideal, the script may need to be changed to accommodate where Harry stands.

You will need: A leader. 4 boys who appear with books – (these are Copies of the Gospels or bibles), Harry and Voldemort

Leader: I know that some boys are very fond of reading, lets find out what they are reading.

Boy 1: I am reading again some pantomime stories, they are great fun. One is about Aladdin and his magic lamp.

Boy 2: I am reading about the Wombles, one story is about ghosts.

Boy 3: I am reading a Pokemon book – there are hundreds of Pokemons in the world.

Boy 4: I am reading a Harry Potter book; it has wizards and lots of magic in it

Leader: I am glad you enjoy your books. Do you ever wish they could come alive? Aladdin in your bedroom – keeping it tidy; A womble in the kitchen – doing the washing up; One of the Pokemon in the garden or even Harry Potter – you cold ask him some questions.

(Harry appears)

Harry; I heard my name, I am here. What questions would you ask?

Boy 4;  Are you a wizard?

Harry; Let me go up these stairs so you can all see me (goes in to (pulpit). Yes I am a wizard and I go to a special school.

Boy 2;  What school is it?

Harry; Hogwarts and the Headmaster is Professor Dumbledore

Boy 1; Is there really a platform 93/4 at Kings Cross Station?

Harry; Yes, and I meet all my friends on the train. When we are at school I am in Gryffindor House.

Boy 3;  What games do you play at school?

Harry; Our favourite is Quidditch – we fly around on our broomsticks.

Boy 4;  Were you looking for a special stone?

Harry; Yes, it will give you lots of money and you will live for long time.

Leader; Harry, I read that there is some one who is very bad, he killed your mother and father and he wanted to kiss you but your mother saved your life.

Harry; Yes that is true – I don’t like to speak his name.

Leader;  Go on, don’t be afraid

Harry; All right then, its Voldermort.   (Voldemort appears)

Voldemort; Yes I am here too. I hate EVERYBODY.

Leader; Let me read you some words from one of the books: “Your mother died to save you. If there is one thing Volemort cannot understand, it is love. He didn’t realise that a love as powerful as your mother’s for you leaves it own mark. Not a scar, not a visible sign. To have been loved so deeply.

Even thought the person who loved is gone. Will give us some protection for ever”

oldemort; Love! But I am stronger than love.

Leader; I have some friends here Voldemort; they are going to show you something really wonderful, really strong. (Boys holding the Gospels in there hands surround Voldemort). They have the Gospels there – reading the story more powerful then magic and wizards – the story of Gods love- that is GOOD NEWS

Voldemort; Go away! I can’t stand looking at those books. Let me get away from here. (He runs away)

Harry; Wow! Is it really so powerful.

Leader Yes Harry, come here, I have a Gospel for you. The word is “LIFE” is on the front. Take it and read it.

Harry; Thank you. I will read it, this is love of God must be wonderful.

(Harry and boys depart)

Leader That was fun! At Christmas we remember the child Jesus born in Bethlehem. He came into a dark and sad world – no magic could help people, but as he lived on earth and called people to follow him, they found happiness and knew he was with them always, even after people had killed him. His promise was true; he would be a friend to everyone, just as he still is today. So enjoy your story books and your videos, but never forget that the greatest story of all there in the Gospels in the Bible. The stone Harry and the others were looking for could never bring real happiness, but knowing Jesus as your friend can and will, as we read the wonderful stories in the Gospels we will find that it is true.
